The brief

Formlab set out to give golfers the feedback a coach would, from a phone clip, with no account, no subscription and no video handed to a server. It had to handle a whole range session as well as a single swing, and leave players with something to practise next.

What we built

Pose tracking on the device
33 points on the body are tracked at 30 frames a second inside the browser, so the video never leaves the player's phone or computer.
Every swing in a session
One swing or up to five minutes of range footage. The whole video is scanned, and up to 12 swings are picked out and analysed one by one.
A coach-style breakdown
Each swing is split into phases from address and takeaway through the top, downswing and impact to the finish, with a score for each, plus tempo and body angles.
Faults and drills
Faults such as head sway or a rushed backswing are flagged, each with a drill to practise, alongside session averages and how consistent the swings were.
Upload or paste a link
Videos come from the device or a Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive share link, with up to five queued and analysed back to back.
A PDF report to keep
The full breakdown downloads as a PDF. There is no account or database, so closing the tab clears everything else.

How it's built

Pose tracking uses Google's MediaPipe Pose Landmarker in the browser, on the device's graphics chip where available, so an analysis costs nothing to run on a server.
Built with Next.js and deployed to Cloudflare Workers through OpenNext. The server only relays videos from cloud links and never saves them.
Players say whether they filmed face-on or down-the-line, and the checks adjust to what that camera angle can show.
